The Apex Chassis KIT101 Extreme Duty Upper & Lower Ball Joint Kit is a high-quality replacement for the worn-out balljoints on your Dodge Ram 2500/3500. These greasable ball joints feature SAE 1045 solidsteel forged knurled housings that are CNC-machined for precision and toeliminate any die wear issues. SAE 1045 induction heat-treated hot forgedchromoly ball studs provide incredible strength while the polished surface actsas an anti-friction bearing with precise tolerances. The rolled threads on the ballstuds are made by pressing the shape of the threads into the ball stud insteadof cutting to strengthen the threads. These threads are also stepped to allowfor the movement of hardware during installation and superior holding whentorqued down.
This Apex Chassis Ball Joint Kit features a carbon-bearingdesign upper ball joint for strength and a military-grade Acetal bearing lowerball joint. The Acetal material is dimensionally stable, meaning it doesn'texpand or contract with hot or cold and doesn't wear out under load like metalon metal. The CR rubber boots resist deterioration from road-level ozone, oil,diesel, gas, and other engine fluids as well as extreme heat or cold. The Grade8 class 10.9 hardware offers superior tensile strength. The side anglepre-threaded Zerk housing includes an extended Zerk fitting for easiermaintenance. These Zerk fittings feature gull-winged grease grooves forimproved lubrication disbursement around the ball stud. This kit contains (2) non-knurled upper ball joints and (2) knurled lower ball joints.
Ball Joint Housing
SAE 1045 Solid Steel is unequivocally the best carbon alloy steel for forged housings that utilize the knurled design for aftermarket installations. Apex Chassis uses CNC Machined housing to make parts and bearings dimensionally perfect, eliminating any die wear problems.
Ball Studs
For the strongest possible metallurgy, these ball joints use SAE 4140 Hot Forged Chromoly Ball Studs. Induction Heat-Treated Ball Studs deliver extremely precise heat treatment to the precise depth and location Apex wants it. Polished Ball Studs are manufactured with extremely precise tolerances and Built like an anti-friction bearing. The threads are made by pressing the shape of the threads into the ball stud instead of cutting, thereby strengthening them and allowing for easy movement of hardware. These step threads offer superior holding when torqued down and allow for very easy movement of hardware upon installation.
Bearing Design
Using the same bearing material spec'd by the US military for Hummer ball joints, these ball joints come with military-grade Acetal bearing. This dimensionally stable material doesn't expand or contract with hot or cold temperatures and does not absorb water or oil. The surface of this material can be polished as smooth as steel, offers anti-friction properties, can take an absolute pounding, and doesn't wear out under load like metal on metal.
Boots & Hardware
CR Rubber Boots are some of the most durable materials for the underside of automotive applications. This material is resistant to deterioration from road-level ozone, oil, fuel, engine fluids, and extreme hot or cold weather. The upper ball joints use a pancake boot while an internal seal boot is coined onto the lower ball joint for exceptional sealing against contaminants. Superior tensile strength is offered by the Grade 8 - Class 10.9 Hardware and the castle nut is an industry standard where high vibration loads happen.
