The Apex Chassis Aluminum ProLock Tie Rod Kit (Polished) KIT381-POL is an ideal upgrade for the steering system in your Dodge Ram 2500/3500. Featuring oversized tie rod ends, connected by a massive aluminum adjusting sleeves, to help eliminate death wobble and tighten up the steering under the most extreme conditions. The weak stock adjusting sleeves are replaced via tie rod and drag link ends threading directly into the connecting rods and secured by proprietary jam nuts (which include the extra holding power of 3 set screws threaded into the wrench flats) and ProLock Washers built into the tie rod and drag link ends.

HOUSING:

SAE 1045 Solid Steel Forged Housing: This is unequivocally the best carbon alloy steel for this application.
CNC Machined Housing: Make our parts and bearings dimensionally perfect, eliminating any die wear issues.

BALL STUDS:

SAE 4140 Hot Forged Chromoly Ball Studs: For the strongest possible metallurgy.
Induction Heat Treated Ball Studs: Provides a very precise heat treatment to the exact depth and location we want it.
Rolled Threads: Made by pressing the shape of the threads into the ball stud instead of cutting. This strengthens the threads instead of weakening them and allows for easy movement of hardware.
Step Threads: Allows for very easy movement of hardware on install and superior holding when torqued (installer choice).

BEARING DESIGN:

Rugged Metal to Metal Bearing

BOOTS:

CR Rubber Boots: The most durable material for undercar applications. Resistant to deterioration from road level ozone, oil/gas/engine fluids and extreme heat or cold.
Accordion Boot: Ideal for high-articulation components, more flexibility means longer life.

FINISH:

Polished Aluminum: Highly polished, raw aluminum

HARDWARE:

Grade 8 - Class 10.9 Hardware: Superior tensile strength.
Castle Nut: Industry standard where high vibration loads occur.

ADJUSTING RODS:

Tie Rod: 2" 7075-T6 Aluminum Rod: The best aluminum available for this application. Extremely durable but has some flex and memory if you really bash it into something.

LUBRICATION:

Pre Threaded Zerk Housing: If you have ever installed a Ball Joint without a pre-threaded zerk fitting you will understand what a simple but great feature this is.
Greaseable: Because it should be.
Pre-Greased: Just in case you forget, Apex Chassis has you covered.
Gull Winged Grease Grooves: Allows for improved lubrication disbursement around the ball stud.
Zerk Fittings: Included for every application.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

ProLock Link Connect System (TM): Exclusively from APEX - This patent pending system utilizes a precision keyway cut into the threads of our tie rod ends, and a pre-bent keyway washer that locks onto the wrench flats of the connecting rod to completely stop any tie rod rotation once the jam nut is set. The jam nut, once torqued to spec, is then locked in place with 3 set screws inset into the jam nut.
Greaseable, High Articulation Spherical Bushing: For extreme durability the passenger side tie rod is fitted with an oversized greaseable high articulation spherical bushing. This allows for maximum articulation and load disbursement, for better performance, and longer life.
These adjusting sleeves are made in the USA

STEEL VS. ALUMINUM:

Apex Chassis States:
Steel: is a great choice for everything from highway driving to overland and fast desert style racing. The steel has less flex and offers a tighter feel and control. With this style of driving and use, you're generally less likely to drop or drive the tie rod into a rock. Another benefit of steel is that you may be able to fix a bend on the trail if it's damaged off-road.

Aluminum: This is the preferred choice for serious crawlers where there is more potential to drive into or land the tie rod onto a rock. In this case flexibility will take stress off the other components in your steering during the impact and the memory will let everything bounce back into place once you have your rig landed on all four wheels. The Aluminum also has a bling factor to it.

Features:

  • Greasable Design
  • Durable Polished Finish
  • Aluminum Rod Construction
  • Complete Tie Rod Assembly
  • Solid Steel And Chromoly Ends

Limited Lifetime
Note:
Your OE Steering Stabilizer Clamp will not fit this Tie Rod. Requires Steering Stabilizer Clamp DC1.75-B (black universal clamp) or DC1.75-Z (zinc universal clamp) for mount in center tie rod, or other suitable 1.75" ID clamp for our steel equipment. If you choose the aluminum kit you'll need a DC2.0-Z (zinc universal clamp), DC2.0-B (black universal clamp) or a 2" ID clamp.
Not compatible with Rough Country dual steering stabilizer.
Dodge note regarding dual stabilizers kits: Due to our oversized tie rod ends, modifications may need to be made to dual stabilizer kit, tie rod end brackets to fit.
