The dummy plug seals the end of each high-pressure oil rail, allowing the HEUI injection system to maintain the oil pressure required for proper injector operation. As the original seals age, internal leaks can develop, resulting in hard hot starts, extended cranking, rough running, low ICP pressure, stalling, or a no-start condition.
Ford's updated W302908 design incorporates an improved sealing system with a PTFE backup ring for greater durability and resistance to high-pressure oil leaks compared to the early design.
